About Beverly
Since 2011, Beverly Brown Ruggia has served as the Financial Justice Program Director for New Jersey Citizen Action. She advocates for State and federal policies related to equitable access to safe financial products and services for consumers and small businesses, consumer finance protections, community and economic development, and for fair and affordable housing. Beverly manages NJCA’s campaign to establish a public bank in New Jersey and played an instrumental role in establishing the New Jersey Social Impact Investment Fund, which will provide below market and patient capital for economic development, infrastructure and affordable housing projects.
Beverly is a founding organizer of the UC Berkley Economic Justice Policy Advocacy Conference, She is a member of the Student Borrower Protection Center’s Advisory Board and serves as a Vice Chair of the Consumer Federation of America’s (CFA) Board of Directors. In 2019 and is the recipient of CFA’s Esther Peterson Consumer Service Award. In 2021, Beverly was appointed to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Consumer Advisory Board and served a term as its chair. She also sits on the national advisory boards for M&T Bank, and Santander Bank.
For more than two decades, prior to her policy advocacy career, Beverly worked in non-profit as well as retail and wholesale business management.
